The New Network Part 1
The old version network is that one monolithic company choosing its programing and hopefully there something you might like, you choose from a lot of networks and watch one or two programs you like, or you might have one or two channels you might watch all the time, but in the mircomedia the network is redefine. Blogs, Podcast, and Video Blogs/Podcast can be link by the people involve in the shows themselves. This new "network" involves more social networking than actual program networking, but it still brings together a collection of content that would be more tailored to the consumer's taste. There are several factor we will look at: what are the context of the new network, an example of a new network, how it benefits Blogs, Podcast, Video Blogs/Podcast, and Advertisers, and how to make a formal new network.

The old network center itself in one media, even thou its parent company owned more than one type of media. Either it was a television network, radio network, etc. The main attribute they would share is there brand name, example ABC and ABC Radio. ABC has a variety of programing geared toward a multitude of audiences, but ABC Radio is a loss collection of radio stations that feature ABC News briefs every hour. They do not share on air personality's, content (other than news), and do not benefit each by co-branding or promoting each other.
There is an exception to this rule, ESPN ®. The ESPN brand is dawn on a multitude of different avenues of distribution, (ESPN®, ESPN Radio®, ESPN.com®, ESPN The Magazine®, etc) for content for all types of media. Each entity has exclusive content, but there are crossed promoted, intertwined with each other, and all share the in the assets of ESPN. For example, Certain ESPN broadcasters have radio shows on ESPN Radio (examples), and also write articles on ESPN the Magazine and/or ESPN.com. Certain programs and content are shared on different cable channels or even different distribution channels (examples). Also ESPN is expanding into other channels of the distribution of there content, like Podcast, V Cast® from Verizon®, etc. ESPN is the model for the 21 century network in the big media world. Next, look at the networks in the micromedia world.

Shopping List
I'm going to start a series of post on something I think about a lot. What should company X buy to strengthen the strategic market position. I live by the mantra, Why build it when I can buy someone who does this function a lot better than I can. First we will look at a service I used a lot, Amazon.
The Shopping List
If you have anymore to add to the list go ahead
Book Swim
Book renters
Chegg
Netflix
Amazon
Valve Software

The Shopping List
- Netflix- This is also a service I love. With there rich database of user preference of movies and recommendation engine would be a prefect fit. Especially since Netflix got out of the DVD sales business. The main problem is the Netflix video streaming service and Amazons Video On Demand, Which one would have to die( my vote would be the Amazon Video On Demand). I left out the biggest point, Amazon the could dominate another distribution channel and leverage the use of more distribution center.
- Gamefly- Same reasons for the to buy Netflix. They are the Netflix of video games.
- Book Swim- Netflix for books
- In fact buy any company that is in a similar business as Netflix, just in a different product.
- Staying in the Book by mail service Book Renter and Clegg are textbook renting services. The textbook business is very lucrative business, I remember how much I blew on book in college.
- Valve Software- I know they are known for video game development, but there Steam service has and is a distribution means of choice for delivery video games. Amazon has already started there own service for delivery of causal games, but they are going to have to make some big strides quick because of the days of the major consoles selling there games on physical media are numbered.
- Buy more blogs or website that review products. Or, better yet buy some podcast and integrate them in to your podcast network.
- They can't buy this, but they need to do it, make one app for all of your digital media services. I have one app for the Knidle, another for the mp3, and one for downloading movies, which is Windows only. Make one app to rule them all, then witness a halo effect when people of these individual services notice all these other service. Apple does it with iTunes, so should you.
- This is not a buy, but another suggestion. Panter with Project Gutenberg or other open source ebook and audio book sources to explain book library with free content. People love free content.
